Chong Yang Day

Our annual jungle trekking and mountain climbing event is back again. It's Chong Yang day on the 7th Oct 2008. Chong Yang day falls on the 9th month of the 9th day of lunar calender. It is said that because of this, the day symbolised prosperity, longevity and good health For Taoist followers or believers, on Chong Yang day, they'll go mountain climbing resulting the extra edge in their career and business prospect. After the climb, they'll fest their thirst by drinking chrysanthemum tea to promote good health for the whole year!!

This year we choose to climb Mount Matang located at Kuching, Sarawak. We choose this site because we want to visit an ancient Hindu Temple located on top of this mountain. The temple was build in 1860 during the time when British ruled Borneo. There used to be a tea plantation and the temple was build to cater for the tea plantation workers that came from many parts of India. The temple today still exits but going through a major change. The local temple authorities who are in charge is constructing a new building to host the dieties there and had import in some workers from India to construct the new building for them. The new building when completed spreads over a beautiful hillside, commanding a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills and some parts of Kuching city. Many worshippers to the temple claimed they experienced some paranoid events at the temple site when they camp there during their visits. The stories they told, will be included in our book "The Mystic World of Feng Shui" which will be on sale soon. Look out for it!

Qi and Aura what is it?

It is claim that the implication of Feng Shui or more accurately named Kan Yu study is an art to access the quality of life through observations and analysis of one's living environment.

The study of Qi (cosmic energy) is today recognized and has help many achieve specific goals in their daily lives. Human used nature to generate changes to enhance their living standards. That where chi / energy comes into the picture.

What is 'Qi' then? 'Qi' originates from cosmic electromagnetic fields. It is also said that chi is both inborn and acquired. Some believed that if the internal chi flows smoothly, good health, vitality and a clear mind would follow. It is proven chi can also slow down aging process. Chinese physician practiced and apply chi for cure, toaist priests practiced chi for various reasons and feng shui practioners also encourage the tapping of chi in a environment of produce a particular outcome. Technically, chi consists of an interactive absorption and release of energy between atoms and molecules of four basic element of oxygen, hydrogen, carbon and nitrogen which give rise to magnectic fields, accordingly to the cycle of the 5 elements. If there is a strong flow of good energy/ chi in an area, you'll see that even plants or trees grown in the land will be green and healthy. So, chi is important to every living being. Electricity and magnetic field are the same, they are bonded together but they are unseen energies in our living environment. But from light, we can see the magnetic charge. The study of Kan Yu (Feng Shui) emphasis on chi/energy.

According to ancient Kan Yu study, chi or the forces of Heaven And Earth is connected to human as human itself is a small universe. If the universe has chi, why not human. But human cosmic chi/ energy is weak but with the practice of Qigong and the implication of Feng Shui, human can enrich their personal chi. The human body itself is a magnetic entity which interacts with the cosmic magnetic fields. Just like Albert Eistein quoted: " Everything is energy, beyond that is supreme intelligence".

As I have emphasis, every living being has chi/energy. We have our personal energy too. Through our body energy, we produce a light which we can see (through a certain technic which you have to learn) that will concentrate above our head. This light is called Aura. An Aura comes from our personal energy/chi. (You can understand what I mean by Aura if you have seen a picture of Dieties, Buddha / Jesus. behind their head, there is a circle of light. That light is called an Aura). Through our aura, we can understand or read the condition of our health, personal luck, our characteristic etc and many more. When I conduct a program on energy retreat, I teach my participants to feel, touch and enrich their personal energy. They also learned to release their personal chi and to purify their chi so that by practicing it daily, they can improved their health and delay aging process. At the end of my program, most of my participants are able to see auras. Below are some pictures, captured and explaination of Auras extracted from the official journal of the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY that proves the existence of cosmic energy and its connection on Earth.

How The Light Show Works (extracted from the journal of the National Geographic Society - November 2001)

The Earth's magnetic field forms a protective envelope called the magnetosphere. Arriving with great force, the solar wind compresses the front end of the magnetosphere and elon-gates the back end into a tail 1. At the point of impact, if properly aligned, the solar wind's magnetic field 2 links up with magnetic field lines from Earth 3. This connection produces the auroras seen on dark winter days in the extreme north and south latitudes 4.

As it blows by the Earth, the solar wind peels back the planet's field lines now linked to it 5. When those lines reach the tail of the magnetosphere, they break away from the solar wind and reconnect 6. Scientists still do not fully understand how, but this process of reconnection transforms magnetic energy into kinetic energy, which then propels electrons and positive ions into Earth's atmosphere along the newly reconnected field lines 7.

These speeding particles, especially the electrons, create the nighttime aurora. Crashing into the atmosphere 8, electrons hit the atoms and molecules of gases such as oxygen and nitrogen. In each collisionn the atom or molecule absorbs energy from the electron, then releases it as light 9. Color depends on which gas is hit and at what altitude.

Examples of Feng Shui War

This is an example of two buildings we came across. Building A installed a big mirror facing Building B. Due to strong reflexion during daytime, Building B installed a cantilever to protect itself from it.

This is what happens when the act of war on the wrong implication of feng shui. Neighbours becomes enemies. Each party attacking each other. Is this practice "practical"???

Above are some of the so called tools suggested by unprofessional feng shui practitioners to use in their feng shui practice. Besides you might also seen things like scissors, abacus, caligraphy brush etc are used to hang on top of the entrance of the house either.

The implication or practice of feng shui is meant to help and improve oneself not to create a war path for you or to your neighbour. When you seek to harmonize your home, do not forget harmony with neighbours are just as important. Furthermore, the objects that you place around your home should not be easily detected by your visitors as feng shui enhancement tools. It's supposed to look natural and decorative, most of all pleasant.

Little Outing in Cameron Highland

This year Dragon Boat Festival we had plan a retreat outing to Cameron Highland with a group of friends. In ancient time, during this day it is believed that at Wu Shi (11am-1pm) the heavenly dragon will spit water onto earth and for those who drink and bath from this water will be bless with good health, prosperity for the year. In fact, if you place an egg on the ground during this day the egg will actually stand with your handoff at Wu Shi. That’s one of the reasons for this trip, to locate the right waterfall and showers ourselves with the water. As a feng shui master this culture has been practiced by me since young.

We also went around to study feng shui sites in Cameron Highland. And of course we won't miss the tea plantation. We drown ourself with a good cup of tea after a hard day work (see our happy faces at our "yam cha" section).

2nd part of our trip in Cameron Highlands is the health retreat programme. We conducted a program for our small group of friends to enhance and feel their personal energy (which is good for health and career advancement)and study the difference in water energy.

I'm so happy that each and everyone of us enjoyed this short outing so much in Cameron Highland and brings back a happy memories. I hope to share with you more about feng shui and energy and hope that one day you can join us too.

Will share with you our trip in Beijing soon.

Feng Shui War

See the pictures; in fact this is nothing new, other feng shui practitioners have commented on this issue in their books. Two buildings facing each other, one has installed a mirror and opposite building has a canon facing it. (The purpose is to blast the opposite building?) Is such practice required???

These examples are some practice by inexperience feng shui practitioners, which we don’t encourage. It defeats the purpose of implication of feng shui. Feng shui is formulated and developed to help man realize that his or her destiny can be further enhance, to attract good fortune, good health and enormous prosperity. It is not meant to create war among those who wish to apply this noble practice or to offend those who do not believe in it.

Many of my clients has consulted me regarding this matter, some even showed me photos they took when they come across such scenario, but due to most of the photos they captured were from private properties, I am not able to post them in this blog for readers to view, so I hope through this write up I am able to give you a clearer picture of the true purpose of the implication of the subject feng shui. For those out there who also has such experience I welcome you to share it with us, post us a photo and if any of such implication post to be a question or threat to you, we can help by giving you the explanation of it purpose or even perhaps a way to remedy if such practice is creating bad effects to your home.

This issue has also been discussed before, on one occasion my guest and client at my house who was a lawyer and a political figure today, pass this comment which I want to share with my readers, "Little Knowledge Is Dangerous Knowledge", do you agree!

I find this comment make sense, till the next write up on Feng Shui War, good day

Feng Shui and Soil

Days ago, I finally got the chance to had lunch reunion with my former students. They were with me for a year while they were doing architecture studies in university and now they are all practicing Architects.

During lunch, they shared with me their experiences about feng shui and construction ideas which they apply in their profession. Suddenly, one of them brought up an interesting topic, he said since so much has been written and said about the structure and design of buildings, the five elements, energy/ chi and its connection with feng shui, then why has no one mentioned on the condition of the soil? Is the selection of soil as important too?

This is a good question, as it is as important. I then shared with them my experience years ago in 1980.

One morning, my friend drove me to their house for a feng shui review. On the way he drove passed a construction site for a new housing project which was on white sandy land. I shared with them that the new housing project is not of good feng shui with such soil condition. Because white sandy land has a very weak earth energy and will not produce good chi to the house occupants. 28 years later, the housing area is fully occupied but the trees and plants were not healthy and green. In fact, there are not much trees and plants in sight. The interior and exterior in most houses needed refurbishing. From the shabby condition of the house, the impression was the house occupants could not afford to give their house a face lift. “Why?” you may ask!

Experience this, try holding a handful of sand in your palm, noticed the sand gliding out, we are not able to retain it for long. Next, try to plant with it, of course the plant will not grow well either. Theory is simple, when the soil condition is not fertile, the energy and chi it produces is weak. Naturally, plants will not grow; residents residing in houses constructed on such land condition will not prosper.

Another example, I came across a commercial lot which was burned. I advised my customer not to invest as even remedy method apply to improve the feng shui, the result will not be promising, as the fire has burn the soil of its life essence and with no chi/ energy the land, cannot produce living force to benefit them.

'So, does that mean the burned area cannot be redevelop?'

Oh no, there is a method the developer can use to rejuvenate the energy/ live force to the land before redeveloping it. That's to replace the burn soil with the new soil, meaning, refilling it to 2 metres deep with fresh top soil before reconstruction begins. By doing so plants will grow healthy, residents also will benefit. Isn't it? The application of feng shui can be scientific proven with logic. It must come with common sence.

Slides above show that the developer filled the sandy land with good soil so that when the building constructed, plants and trees will grow. But unfortunately the soil level is not enough as the right level will be 2m deep.

Chi is a life essence, a force where it connects to each and every one of us on earth.

This type of soil has life/ energy. It will provide life essence as it is fertile. Any plants or trees will grow well on this soil, therefore if your house/ building is constructed on such condition soil, you too can benefit from the chi it produces.

{所以我说风水能帮人也能害人,比喻:一把菜刀拿来切菜是一把好器,用来杀人是一把凶器。}

Feng Shui and Aquarium

After the earlier explanation of water and feng shui, I was asked to comments on the placement of aquariums and how it can be connected to the application of feng shui.

In most offices, it is common to hear about the politics and the corporate power struggles that are happening inside. The problems employers encounter each day with their office staff, the lack of cooperation and the list goes on... etc.

Some will wonder if there’s a method or a way that they could apply or use to help ward off such problems. According to the Jiu Gong Yii Kua Feng Shui practiced, placing an aquarium in the correct position/ sector in connection to the five elements will not only eliminate such problem that causes this imbalance, it can at the same time attributes and do activate chi to benefit in other ways than just bringing monetary prosperity.

Tips
1. The Chairman or The Managing Directors of the company will need to find out their personal Kua Number to locate the sector to place the aquarium.
2. Otherwise, they could also use their 4 auspicious directions or sectors to place the aquarium.
3. Placing an aquarium in the phoenix position in a main lobby of an office or building will help to enhance wealth, creating excellent feng shui.

Inauspicious position to place an aquarium
1. Do not place an aquarium in your bedroom. Your bedroom is a place where you need to really sleep and rejuvenate yourself. The aquarium symbolizes movement, when placed in a bedroom it can lead to suffer of losses, creating bad health, bad luck and bad career luck.
2. Do not place an aquarium at the west position, your white tiger sector (白虎方), your adultery sector (桃花方) and your five devils sector (五鬼方). When placed at these inauspicious positions it will cause one to suffer losses and face back stabbing from others.
3. The water level in the aquarium must not be higher than the owner’s chest as this will drown the owner.

The Right Fish for Your Aquarium
To help enhance wealth and to provide saviour (贵人), goldfish or carp is highly recommended. For big corporate, the arowana will be more suitable.

Fishy Story
In 1996, I was invited to do a review for Mr and Mrs X’s house. It is about 10,000 sq feet. In the main living room, Mr X has an aquarium which houses a beautiful arowana fish. As I go through the feng shui chart with Mr X, I explained to him that his personal kua, Shin Kung on the right hand side of the living room is his adultery position (桃花方). As he had placed an aquarium there, I suggest he remove the aquarium to the left hand side of the room to avoid the house occupants of committing adultery. Mr X immediately instructed his maids to move the aquarium. I left Mr X’s house after completing my review. Two years after my appointment with Mr X, I met Mrs X at a shopping complex while I was doing my shopping. She greeted me and we stopped for a chat. I asked her on their well being and this is what she answered me. “Mr Kueh, how accurate your review at my house is. After your review, I went to stay with my daughter (who is studying in UK) for 6 months. When I returned home, I noticed the aquarium was back at its original position. I didn’t think it was important then but after awhile I noticed some change in my husband. When I confronted him, he confessed to me that while I was away, he had an affair with his secretary and today he had a mistress. I was sad that this had happened but in a way, I had to admit that the placing of the aquarium is important as you had earlier warned us that adultery will happen if it’s place in that position. You see my husband move the aquarium back to the right hand side of the main living room while I was away." Mrs X bade me farewell after that. For me, I was sad that people choose to abuse the application of feng shui. It is a noble practised meant to help to enhance one living standard and not to abused it. So practised it wisely!

Water and Fengshui

In the theory of the subject "Feng Shui 風水" the word water has frequently been used to describe or represent many things. It has also been used to represent the blood of the dragon. Why is the word water being used? Water can flows in any direction, nothing can stop in its way, the flow can either be a fast or slow flow. It can be natural, it can also be created. When a Feng Shui Practitioner uses the word water, it can meant the flow of chi "Shui Loo 水路",the water features around your home, the dragon's blood "Suen Loong Tien Siek 寻龍點穴" etc and the lists goes on.

While water also represents wealth, ancient text on water in Feng Shui has a saying that goes, "The mountain represents sons, and water represents wealth 山管人丁,水管財". That's where, the water flow in your home compound can be arrange to attract and capture the dragon's cosmic breathe. Some say, to tap the chi, so the chi has to be found, then collected. Your home compound landscape plays a role in this. The flow of water when correctly positioned can be altered to capture or harness auspicious chi to bring good fortune to the house occupants. Likewise it can also be altered or created to disperse bad chi that causes misfortune etc.

Below are some explanations on the symbols of water:

1. Chou Shui 朝水 - Water feature which is in front of your house.

2. Chi Shui 去水 - Water which flows out of your house, if the flow is fast and strong, it creates the poison arrow effect "Lou Chi"( bad chi). If you have a drain which the flow is strong, cover the drain.

3. Chit Shui 聚水 - Whirlpool or lake in front of a house, such flow of chi is good for the house as the energy/chi will concentrate in that area collecting auspicious chi bringing wealth to its occupants.

4. Fan Shui 放水 - Water that comes from the drain or from hilly ground.
If the water is clean water, it's best to arranged the flow to the green dragon position "Qing Loong Fang 青龍方". If it is contaminated water, arrange the flow to the white tiger position "Pai Hu Fang 白虎方".

Many modern homes today are installed with some water features. It is advisable to seriously study if the placing is correct. When wrongly placed, the effects that comes with it effecting the house occupants are bad health, adultery, and if serious case, death. For a home, the erection of a pond or well, it is advisable not be erect a well in a house that has been occupied for a long time as when wrongly placed causes death. "Siat Pern Chow Jing 血盆照鏡". If there is a need to erect a pond or a swimming pool,
it is advisable to erect it further away from the house avoiding the front door, adultery position "桃花方" in your home and the enemy position "Wu Kui Fang 五鬼方". Water enhances the bad chi at the adultery position "桃花方" and the enemy position "Wu Kui Fang 五鬼方" increasing its effects. When this happens, it not only affects the man in the house, it also affects the female occupants in the house. An issue, best to avoid.

There is no fix design or shape on your pond, carefully study the position, locate the right place then only decide on the right shape or design. In my travels, I have come across some homes where two ponds or water features were erected in front of the house, one positioned on the right hand side, the other on the left hand side. This scenerio is also found everywhere at the Forbidden Palace in Beijing, China.
Two huge jars filled with water sits on each side of the doors, left and right. In the subject "Feng Shui 風水" your front door represent your mouth, so when you have two water features placed on each side, it represents the two eyes with tears. That's why so much tears were shed at the Forbidden Palace.
If you have two water features each on the right and left side of your house, it is advisable to keep only one of the water feature. Dispose or cover the other one, if it is a pond. Stories extracted from the Forbidden Palace, the effects of the water features created effecting the occupants there is already a lesson for all of us to learn, so seriously study the placing of the water features in your home to avoid such unnecessary tragedies.

The Relationship of tree and plants in “Feng Shui” (Yin and Yang Group)

Living in a concrete jungle today, many of us like to see a lot of green and flower plants in our garden. We also like our home to be comfortable and in harmony with us so that we have a heaven to go back to. As trees and plants play an important role in our lives,we need to know how it effects us in feng shui for our daily lives. But most do not know what kind of plants or trees are suitable for their house and how they are related to the application of feng shui. The correct placing of certain trees and plants accordingly to the 5 elements and the 4 directions is important as when correctly place the trees or plants will grow healthier, it also gives out oxygen and good chi thus helping us to prosper too. Your flower plants will give you their most beautiful blooms making you a proud healthy owner of the house. When trees and plants are correctly placed, they help to harness good chi as well as lower the effects of bad chi flow around your home. So when you’re strolling along your garden/ compound you too will be surrounded by good chi enhancing good health for yourself. One common oriental design of a landscape is at East sits a bridge across a man made stream, with a willow tree beside the bridge overlooking the stream absorbing the sunlight from South, creates that tranquillity ambience. What a beauty!! While most refer certain trees and plants as bad, I refer them to be in 2 groups which are the Yang group and Yin group plants and trees. It is good to understand your requirement of the right plants or trees for your garden, as it helps to harness good chi for you home at the same time repels the bad energy. Below, are some explanation or meaning in plants and trees and what kind of effect it will create as practiced by ancient chinese gardeners.

Good Fortune Plants (When correctly place)

1. Siok Liu/ Pomegranate - properity tree

2. Bamboo tree/ plants - prosperity and peace

3. Mandarin orange tree/ plant - prosperity

4. Pine tree - longevity

Note: Place an evergreen plant of rounded leaves at your wealth area to help harness good chi to that position to create more wealth.

Example of yang plants/ trees:
Pine trees, Loh Han Siong, Chen Perk

Yang group plants/ trees are good for the area that sits on the yin position, as yang means live.

Example of yin plants/ trees:
Pak Qiao Shu, Williow Tree, Banana Trees and plants that grows on water.

Yin group plants/ trees create bad energy that does not benefits the house occupants. Do not overload your garden with yin trees/ plants.
